Cody Rhodes had been promoted as a main event star in his professional wrestling career for the first time after he returned to WWE in 2022. He left the promotion back in 2016 upon disagreement with the officials. He was even a founding member of the AEW in 2019, which was the biggest rival of WWE as of now.
Finally, Cody Rhodes decided to return to WWE in 2022, and this time he was promoted as a main event star, unlike his previous run where he was nothing but a mid card. He returned at WrestleMania 38 as the surprise opponent of Seth Rollins, and after a hard fought battle, Rhodes picked up a huge victory over the former World Champion.

Seth Rollins remembers working with Cody Rhodes at Hell in a Cell 2022
Rhodes and Rollins had a series of matches in 2022, and their final match took place at the Hell in a Cell event inside the Hell in a Cell, where Rhodes wrestled with a visible Torn Pec injury and amazed everyone. Seth Rollins recently remembered this Hell in a Cell match and praised Cody Rhodes for his excellent performance in this work. He also explained why it was the right call. Speaking on the “Games With Names” podcast, he said the following;
“We do WrestleMania; a month later, we have a show called Backlash. He beats me again, and then we’re gonna finish this story in Hell in a Cell. I’m gonna get my big win finally because he has beaten me two times in a row. The week before this, he is in the gym bench pressing. Pop. Gone. Gone immediately.

"They send the doctor, ‘Oh, yeah, that pec is gone.’ He knew it right away. They’re like, ‘Well, do we get surgery right away? Can you still wrestle?’ is what he wanted to know. ‘Can I still wrestle?’ I mean, the pec’s gone. You’re not gonna hurt it any worse, but you can’t do anything with it.”
“This happened on, like, a Tuesday. We had non-televised events on Friday and Saturday that week. He showed up at these live events, and he was there, and we were supposed to have a match on this live event. Obviously, they didn’t want to take any chances, so he wasn’t wrestling on that, but he showed up, and he showed it to me, and it looked like that (points to Cody’s picture from Hell in a Cell).

Cody Rhodes remained out of action for a long time after this match
"And I was like, ‘What the ** are you talking about, dude? You cannot wrestle like that.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah!’ I’m like, ‘What? How are we supposed to have a match? You can’t do anything. You’re in a copious amount of pain.’ Hell in a Cell match, which is one of the most violent matches in our industry, and, like, how are we gonna… ‘Oh, dude, this ***!’ So that was kinda a lead-up to it.” said Seth Rollins.
Cody Rhodes and Rollins had an amazing match at Hell in a Cell 2022, and even with a major injury, Rhodes presented the match of the year with Rollins. He could not return to action before 2023, and he won the men's Royal Rumble match on the night of his return. He is still promoted as the face of WWE, and he is doing a tremendous job.
