Cody Rhodes had been one of those millions who cried during the emotional farewell of John Cena last Saturday at Saturday Night's Main Event. Cena wrestled his final match against Gunther, who had the right to face him by winning a 16 man tournament that was organised to determine the final opponent of Cena.

John Cena had been quite dominant in his final match from the very beginning, and at one point, it looked like he was going to squash Gunther. But at the end of the match, the man who always said "Never Give Up" finally gave up. With an emotional smile on his face, he tapped out for the first time in 21 years.

The majority of the fans were extremely emotional after the defeat of Cena, and they even booed Triple H for booking this. Cody Rhodes, the present WWE Undisputed Champion, came out to join the farewell of the Greatest of All Time. Recently, he talked about how emotional he went during this event while speaking on the post match press conference of SNME;

Cody Rhodes and John Cena had two big matches in 2025

“It is really hard to describe in a sense of all the positives that he brought to our industry, and leaving it better than he found it. And ah, wrestling is — there is a way it ends, you know? And he did everything right, by the book. It’s still, like — when it’s that good, you don’t want it to end.

"I know that is vague, but he did every thing by the book and taught so many people, and set such a high standard, such a high bar. I’m not trying to get emotional on his night. But more than anything, just taking a moment and think about those sneakers, and the pump-ups before that. And the man who filled those and what he was able to do. Through good times, through bad times.

John Cena Retirement

Cena had his retirement match at Saturday Night's Main Event

‘Tonight, everyone is chanting ‘Let’s go Cena.’ Not ‘Let’s go Cena’ and ‘Cena sucks.’ Just ‘Let’s go Cena.’ It’s everything. I am so happy it happened. It’s a great, great arena with great wrestling history, and I am so sad it happened, too.”

Cody Rhodes and CM Punk, the two present World Champions of WWE, joined the farewell and put their Championships on the shoulder of John Cena to pay homage to the Champ. Cody Rhodes was also seen in tears at the end of the farewell, which showed his attachment to Cena. This night will always remain immortal in the world of professional wrestling.
