Cody Rhodes may be one of the biggest names in WWE right now, but during his early days, it never looked like he would ever be able to get to the position. He joined WWE back in 2006, and throughout his entire first run in the promotion, he was only given a mid card break, and ultimately, in 2016, he left the promotion.

Cody Rhodes' mid card run was not really bad as he won multiple championships in his first run in the promotion, including two Intercontinental Championships, and also a total of 6 Tag Team Championships. He left the promotion in 2016 and started working on the independent circuit. He also became a part of AEW in 2019, and he was a key figure of the promotion.

Cody Rhodes recently appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show," where he revealed how much his amateur wrestling background helped him throughout his career. Here is what he had to say;

"The whole thing, the whole reason I was so obsessed with folk style amateur wrestling is because where I lived, Dusty was kind of Gomez Adams. When we would go to tournaments and stuff, he was just looked upon as he had this freak-like job. And then he was always ridiculed for not being a real athlete, which Dusty looked how Dusty looked.

"But everything he did, he could hit a baseball as far as anyone, I mean, everything he did, he was a great athlete. But I really wanted people to know when it came to me, the wrestling was as real as it got. It was a weird psychology as a youngster, but it drove me 'cause that run in high school was absurd." Said the present Undisputed WWE Champion.
