Cody Rhodes has been portrayed as the face of WWE ever since he made his return to the promotion in 2022. He was out of the promotion for over six years, and he was given one of the founding members of the AEW wrestling promotion. Finally, he returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 as the surprise opponent of Seth Rollins.

WWE believed in giving him a slow build to progress him into the face of the promotion. He won two consecutive Royal Rumble matches and became the fourth wrestler to win back-to-back Royal Rumble matches. He also challenged Roman Reigns in back to back to WrestleMania events for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Cody Rhodes explains why he does not like WWE bringing back legends

Cody Rhodes failed to win the Championship at WrestleMania 39, but at WrestleMania XL, he made no mistake as he finally defeated Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. Since then, he has been the face of WWE, and he has been doing a great job. He defended the title on the main event of WrestleMania 41 against John Cena in a losing effort, but he won the title back at SummerSlam.

Cody Rhodes is a two times WWE World Champion

Cody Rhodes is still holding the Championship, and presently, he is having a rivalry with Drew McIntyre over the Championship. He is heavily rumoured to enter WrestleMania 42 as the champion to defend the title against Roman Reigns. Recently, he discussed why he did not like the fact that WWE keep on bringing legends. Speaking on his “What Do You Wanna Talk About?” podcast, he said the following;

“I hate nostalgia, but I love my business. I already know what all these guys did for us. Thank you, they’ve set the table that I get to eat at. But man, they can’t keep coming back. From a wrestling perspective, we have to move forward. I don’t want them coming back; I don’t mean any disrespect.”

“I want them to come to a show, sit, and watch a show. Watch what they’ve done for the business. I don’t think enough people are in the pursuit of greatness, and they’re afraid to say it. Mediocrity loves company. When you find a circle of people that don’t grow as close to you, and don’t want you to go for it.” said the present Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
