CM Punk left WWE in January 2014, and he made it clear again and again that he would never return to WWE. He was really angry about the fact that he was not getting the WrestleMania main event when he worked hard for all the year, and it was given to part timers like The Rock and Batista for back to back three years.
After he left WWE, he decided never to come back to the promotion. He tried his luck in MMA, but things did not go very well for him. In 2021, he finally made his return to professional wrestling, holding the hands of AEW. The fans were really excited to see him back in the wrestling world after more than 7 years.

But unfortunately, his AEW run could not be as good as everybody thought it could be. Ultimately, he left the promotion after a couple of years despite having a successful run in terms of winning championships. In the same year, he finally decided to return to WWE by burying the hatchet.
CM Punk remained out of WWE for a decade
CM Punk made a surprise return to WWE at the end of the Survivor Series event of 2023, after the War Games match. It is now considered one of the best returns in the history of WWE. During an interview on "Pardon My Take," The Best in the World recently remembered why WWE's return in 2023 was special. Here is what he has to say about it;

"I really try not to be [a doomsayer] now; I try to live in the moment. I really got nothing bad to say, but yeah, there's peaks and valleys to everything. It's just the natural progression of things. Like, things can't always be here [gestures up]. If they're always here, you can't... I don't know, you expect it, you can't enjoy it; you gotta take the lows with the highs!"
CM Punk maintained his main event status ever since retiring from WWE in 2023, and he finally had his dream come true when he featured in the main event of WrestleMania 41 night 1. But so far, he is yet to have a proper World Championship run. Hopefully, things get even better for him in the future.
