CM Punk remained out of WWE for nearly a decade, and at one point, nobody ever thought that he would ever return to the promotion. He worked in his last match at the Royal Rumble event of 2014 as a participant in the Royal Rumble match. He felt like he was getting stripped out of the WrestleMania main event every time, and it was being given to part timers like Batista and The Rock.

After leaving WWE, CM Punk tried his luck in the mixed martial arts, but things did not go very well for him. In September 2021, he joined AEW and spent a couple of years. Everybody expected him to have an amazing time in this new wrestling promotion, but things did not go very well for him in AEW either. Ultimately, he left the promotion in 2023 and made a sensational return in WWE in November of the same year.

CM Punk talked about his return to WWE

He made his return to WWE at the end of Survivor Series 2023, and he is still active in the promotion. He has done an amazing job ever since returning to WWE. He started things off with an amazing rivalry with Seth Rollins, followed by another excellent feud with Drew McIntyre. At SummerSlam 2024, he won the first world title since returning to the promotion.

But he could not enjoy the title run for long as Seth Rollins cashed in the MITB contract and took the title away from him. He won the title again on November 1 at Saturday Night's Main Event, and he is still holding the title quite strongly. Recently, he spoke with WGN TV in Chicago, where he talked about why his return to WWE has really been amazing and how he is having a great time. He said;

“Oh, it’s tremendous. Having — literally having the time of my life. And I think it resonates, I think you can see it. This (having the World Heavyweight Title] is an unexpected treat. And obviously I’m older, I’m more mature. And I feel like I get it now. The weight of this, it isn’t so heavy. But I have more of an understanding now, like, ‘Yeah, this is part of the job.’ And I know some day this is all gonna be over, so I’m just enjoying it.”

He also talked about getting the support from the Chicago fans, “No, no [it never gets old]. And you saw [in a clip], the one guy hugging me. It’s the warm embrace of Chicago as a whole and I can still feel it. I feel it today. I love being here, I love performing.

“I was just in Madison Square Garden on Monday night. And the fans in Madison Square Garden are very important and integral to what we do. But to me, obviously the fans in Chicago? Best in the world.” said the Best in the World CM Punk.
