CM Punk wrestling career
CM Punk made his professional wrestling debut back in October 1997, and during his early days, he worked on the independent circuit. In 2002, he got the opportunity to work in both of the newest promotions that were founded that year, TNA Wrestling and Ring of Honor. He worked for a couple of years in TNA Wrestling but did not get any exposure.
But Ring of Honor tried to utilise him in a better way as he had been a two times Tag Team Champion with Colt Cabana, and he had also been a one time ROH World Champion. He was one of the rising stars of the promotion before leaving it permanently in 2006. He joined WWE in 2005 and started working in Ohio Valley Wrestling, which was the developmental territory of WWE back then.
Punk was given his first main roster break in June 2006 as he started working in ECW, which was reopened as a third brand of WWE. He spent a couple of years in the ECW, where he had even been a one time ECW Champion. His first big break came in the form of winning the Money in the Bank Ladder match in 2008, which he successfully cashed in on Edge to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time.
In 2009, he won't be Money in the Bank ladder match once again to become the first and only wrestler to win two Money in the Bank Ladder matches and also two consecutive Money in the Bank Ladder matches. Later, he cashed it in on Jeff Hardy to win the World Heavyweight Championship. It also marked the beginning of his first ever heel turn in WWE.
He was established as a main event star after winning his second World title, and he became an even bigger star as a heel. In 2011, he had a huge rivalry with John Cena, and this rivalry is often considered one of the best rivalries in modern day wrestling. His match with John Cena from Money in the Bank 2011 remains one of the best wrestling matches of his career.
But by the end of 2013, Punk was really unhappy because he was not given the chance to main event WrestleMania, and every time it was given to some part-time wrestler. After he was not given the main event of WrestleMania XXX, he decided to leave the promotion after his final appearance in the Royal Rumble match at the Royal Rumble event of 2014.
He remained out of action for nearly 8 years before finally returning to the ring in AEW. But his AEW run turned out to be a failure, and he left the promotion in 2023 to return to WWE again. During the time of his sabbatical, he tried his luck in the UFC, but unfortunately, his UFC career was disastrous.
In November 2023, he returned to WWE after 10 long years, and once again, he was treated as a main event star. He already had some excellent rivalries with some of the top stars of the promotion. He is having an amazing time in WWE right now, and presently he is having a rivalry with Seth Rollins over the World Heavyweight Championship.
