Chris Jericho left WWE in 2017 and has not returned to the promotion as of now. He had been active in AEW ever since the promotion was founded back in early 2019. He had also been the inaugural World Champion of the promotion. He had a wonderful time in AEW and was always treated as a legend, something he truly is.

But it has been reported recently that Chris Jericho is on the brink of leaving AEW, and finally, he is coming back to WWE after nearly a decade. The fans have started to speculate when he will finally come back. Nothing has been confirmed officially yet, but it is predicted that he will return as a surprise participant in the upcoming men's Royal Rumble match at the Royal Rumble event.

Eric Bischoff discusses the potential WWE return of Chris Jericho

But what is going to be the role that Jericho will be playing if he actually gets to make his return to the promotion? It had been a matter of discussion for every WWE fan and the pundits. Recently, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff talked about the potential WWE return of Jericho while speaking on his “83 Weeks” podcast. He said;

“I don’t know if it’s right or not. Here’s the fun thing about Chris. I’ve been watching this. Been watching the prequel to all of this for about a year and a half. I’ve seen this train coming. I didn’t go public and predict it, but I can assure you I’ve been watching Chris — what he does, what he doesn’t do, how he looks, how he doesn’t look, what he says, what he doesn’t say — because he’s such an interesting cat. Because he’s constantly playing chess, in my opinion.”

Chris Jericho left WWE back in 2017

“I don’t want to profess to know Chris really well. I like Chris and I will say that I respect the hell out of him, probably because of what I’m about to say. And maybe none of it’s true and I’ve bought into an illusion, but I kind of think I see what he’s doing and I think he’s brilliant.

"And I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that he’s gone. I think it’s a foregone conclusion that he’s going to be a lot more interesting and valuable to whoever he’s going to end up working with, because this is kind of an organic, natural ‘controversy creates cash’ story.”

“Let’s just say he’s already finished his contract. He’s going to be… this s*** is already going on, right? It’s going to heighten. There’s going to be more speculation. You know why? Because Chris is going to create it. Because he’s smart. He’s raising his stock value.

Chris Jericho is a 6 times WWE World Champion

"And guess what? If he stays with AEW, he’s more valuable than he was six months ago. And if he’s not going to stay with AEW, he has value that he didn’t have six months ago. And that’s where he starts from in WWE. But Chris is smart enough to see that.”

Even if Chris Jericho makes a sensational return to WWE as a surprise participant in the Royal Rumble match, it cannot be confirmed whether he will be treated as a regular star once again, since he is already 55 and he does not have much left in him. He should not be treated as a main eventer star either, especially looking at his age. But he can definitely be treated as a legend.
