When TNA Wrestling came into existence for the first time in 2002, the promotion was trying to sign almost all the top stars of the time. They secured the signatures of some of the biggest stars from WCW, like Sting and Booker T. They also signed top wrestlers from WWE, like Kurt Angle, who went on to become their biggest star ever.

TNA Wrestling faced a lot of criticism for not putting over younger talents and only relying on stars that were already famous. Some fans even alleged that the promotion they were only trying to be WCW and not a new and different promotion. But it is definitely true that TNA Wrestling became a top promotion in the 2010s, and they were also a huge competition for WWE.

Brock Lesnar almost signed for TNA Wrestling in 2007

It may sound surprising, but the promotion was really close to signing Brock Lesnar in 2007. Former TNA Wrestling Road Agent Scott D'Amore recently revealed this shocker while writing about it on his ‘D’Amore Drop’ blog. The former TNA president revealed how the promotion almost signed Brock Lesnar. He wrote;

Brock Lesnar left WWE in 2004

“Kurt Angle revealed this week that Brock Lesnar was in talks with TNA back in 2007. This is absolutely true — I was the producer of almost all Kurt’s early matches in TNA and he came to me saying Brock wanted to come over.

Kurt was very excited about this and, obviously, it would have been a huge, maybe trajectory-altering signing for TNA. I passed it on to Dixie Carter, who owned TNA at the time. But, as you already know, it didn’t happen.

Kurt Angle was active in TNA Wrestling in 2007

It’s a huge what-if, not just for TNA, but for Lesnar. If he came to TNA on a big contract in 2007, would he have still debuted in MMA that year? Would he have felt the need to go fight in the UFC in 2008 and help usher in a legion of new fans for the UFC? I suppose we’ll never know.”

Lesnar had a big match with Kurt Angle in 2007 in Japan, and TNA Wrestling attempted to continue this rivalry in their promotion. Lesnar and Angle had a huge rivalry in WWE back in 2003, and it is considered the best feud of that year. If TNA Wrestling could have actually brought this rivalry to their promotion, it could have been a huge money maker.
