Braun Strowman was one of the biggest stars of WWE back in 2018, and he was always in the main event picture. Although he could not win a World Championship before 2020, he had made a significant push long before he finally won one. To be more precise, he defeated Goldberg at WrestleMania 36 to win the WWE Universal Championship.
At the Royal Rumble event of 2018, Brock Lesnar defended the WWE Universal Championship in a triple threat match where Braun Strowman and Kane challenged for the title. Brock Lesnar retained the Championship at the end of the match when he pinned Kane after hitting an F5.

But during the match, things became a little heated between Brock Lesnar and Strowman. Lesnar became so angry with the Monster Among Men that he started punching him for real. Strowman recently remembered the incident while speaking with Booker T on his “Hall of Fame” podcast. Here is what the former WWE star has to say about the incident;

“I was thinking, ‘Why are you hitting me so hard? I didn’t mean to hit you!’ I also like to think I’m one of the very (few) – if not the only person – that’s ever took an overhand right from Brock Lesnar and not went down from it. He definitely wobbled me with it.
Strowman is presently not active in any wrestling promotion
“It kinda made me angry, because you see about 30 seconds later I tried to rip his head off with a clothesline, and then we kinda had a little conversation, like ‘Alright, let’s get back to working.” said Strowman, regarding the heated moment between him and Lesner from the triple threat WWE Universal Championship match at Royal Rumble 2018.
Braun Strowman had always been treated as a main event star by Vince McMahon, but after Triple H became in charge of WWE creative, he never saw him as a main eventer, and he was more of a mid card during the reign of Triple H in WWE. In July 2025, Strowman was released from WWE, and we can expect him to join the independent circuit soon.
