AJ Styles became a part of WWE in 2016, and he has been a top star of the promotion ever since. It did not look like the promotion wanted to push him as a main event star during his early career. But in the same year of his debut, he won the WWE championship and established himself as a regular main event star.
One of the biggest names that helped Styles become a main eventer in WWE was John Cena. The Champ was leaving WWE for Hollywood during that time, and Styles was one of the final wrestlers he put over during that time. It can definitely be said that without the push of John Cena, we would never have gotten the main eventer AJ Styles in WWE.

AJ Styles thanked John Cena for helping him during his early career
Styles recently thanked John Cena for helping him become a top star in WWE. They admitted that without Cena, he could never be a top star in the promotion. He appeared on the previous episode of RAW Recap, where he explained the contributions of John Cena in his WWE career. Here is what he had to say;
AJ Styles had their first match at Money in the Bank 2016
“He definitely made me. There’s no question in my mind that he helped make AJ Styles. He put me on a different level, and some of my best matches have been with John (Cena). That is also no question. So, I don’t know where I would be exactly on the charts right now, if it hadn’t had been for John but it certainly did help being in the ring…”

They had they are last match at the latest WWE premium live event Crown Jewel
“He didn’t call me. He didn’t ask if he could use it. But, with everything that he’s done for me, I took it as a compliment and even he said it on the interview, it was showing appreciation, and so, mind you, it’s never gonna be an AJ Styles ‘Styles Clash’ so, I forgive him pretty easy.”
John Cena and Styles had their first match at Money in the Bank 2016, and their second match took place at SummerSlam of the same year. In both of the matches, Styles was victorious. Their third match took place at Royal Rumble 2017, where John Cena defeated Styles to win the WWE championship for the 16th time. They did not face each other until the latest WWE premium live event, Crown Jewel, where both of them had been really good at the age of 48.
