AJ Styles wrestling career

AJ Styles joined the world of professional wrestling back in 1998 at a very young age. He worked on the independent circuit during his first three years before getting his first big call in 2001 from WCW. But the promotion was already on its dying stage, so he could not get enough opportunity to shine.

After WCW went bankrupt, he returned to the independent circuit. He also appeared in a number of WWE tryout matches in 2001. His first WWE match was against Hurricane Helms, and he lost this match. In his second match, he was defeated by Rico in WWE. Ultimately, he failed to get a WWE contract.

In 2002, two major professional wrestling promotions were founded, TNA Wrestling and Ring of Honor. AJ Styles became a part of both promotions. He remained active in Ring of Honor until 2006, and he even managed to win a couple of Championships in the promotion. He left the promotion in 2006, never to return.

TNA Wrestling, on the other hand, became the promotion that made AJ Styles a world famous superstar. He had been groomed as one of the biggest faces of the promotion, and in his 12 year TNA career, he won all the possible Championships in the promotion. He is also recognised as the first ever TNA Grand Slam Champion.

After leaving TNA Wrestling in 2014, he moved to Japan to work in New Japan Pro Wrestling where he had been a two times IWGP Heavyweight Champion. He was also a member of the famous Bullet Club faction. He was promoted as a top star in Japan, but after working in Japan for a couple of years, he left the promotion in 2016.

He returned to WWE in 2016, and his first appearance was as a surprise entrant in the 2016 Royal Rumble match. During his early days, he was promoted as a mid card talent, but after seeing his popularity, Vince McMahon decided to promote him as a main eventer. He even won the WWE World Championship in his first year in the promotion.

Styles had been a two times WWE World Champion, and he has also won other major championships in the promotion like the WWE Intercontinental Championship and the WWE United States Championship. He is recognised as a Grand Slam Champion of WWE, and he is still active in the promotion as he has mostly focused on putting over younger talents.
