Indian shuttlers Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty produced one of their finest performances as they upset world No. 1 and top-seeded Korean duo Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae to storm into the men's doubles final of the Singapore Open Super 750 on Saturday.

The fourth-seeded Indian pair displayed tremendous composure and attacking intent throughout the contest, defeating the reigning world champions 21-19, 21-18 in a gripping semifinal that lasted 52 minutes.

The victory marks another major milestone for Satwik and Chirag, who are now just one win away from lifting one of the biggest titles.

Satwik and Chirag fight back to topple Korean giants

The semifinal clash lived up to expectations as both pairs exchanged blows in a high-quality contest.

The Koreans held a slender 13-11 advantage at the mid-game interval of the opening game and appeared to be in control. However, Satwik and Chirag remained patient and gradually found their rhythm. The Indian duo raised the intensity at crucial moments and won a series of important rallies to snatch the opening game 21-19.

The second game followed a similar pattern.

Trailing 11-14 at one stage, Satwik and Chirag once again showed remarkable resilience. Instead of panicking, they stuck to their game plan and steadily chipped away at the deficit before taking control in the closing stages.

Their aggressive net play and powerful smashes eventually proved too much for the world No. 1 pair as the Indians sealed the second game 21-18 and booked their place in the final.

One step away from the title

With the victory, Satwik and Chirag advanced to the championship match where they will face either Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri or China's Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang.

The Indian duo will enter the final brimming with confidence after overcoming the tournament's top seeds and reigning world champions.

Meanwhile, India's campaign in mixed doubles came to an end after Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto suffered a 16-21, 21-17, 13-21 defeat against Japan's Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara in the semifinals.

PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen had exited earlier

Earlier in the tournament, India's challenge in the singles events ended in the quarterfinal stage.

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu was defeated by world No. 1 An Se Young of South Korea in straight games. Despite showing flashes of brilliance, Sindhu went down 17-21, 14-21, extending her winless run against the Korean star.

In men's singles, Lakshya Sen's campaign also came to an end after a hard-fought three-game defeat against Japan's Koki Watanabe. The All England 2026 runner-up battled for 78 minutes before eventually losing 19-21, 21-15, 15-21.
