Jannik Sinner pulled off a stunning comeback performance against Daniil Medvedev to win the Indian Wells Open 2026 title on Sunday, March 15. The Italian came from 0-4 down in the second set tiebreak to win the match 7-6(6), 7-6(4). With his win, the World No. 2 also closed the gap to Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP singles rankings.
The four-time Grand Slam winner clinched his first title of the season after falling in the semifinals of the Australian Open and the quarterfinals in Doha. He claimed 1000 points in the rankings after missing the Indian Wells event in 2025 due to his three-month doping ban.
Before the first ATP 1000 event of the season, Sinner was trailing behind Carlos Alcaraz by over 3200 points. The Spaniard's 16-match winning run this season was snapped by Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. With Alcaraz out, Sinner took this opportunity to win his first Indian Wells title and also close the gap to the World No. 1 spot.
After the match, Jannik Sinner talked about his brilliant comeback in the second set tiebreak, saying it was an 'incredible ending'.
"I kept believing and kept pushing," Sinner said in the post-match interview. "I went for my shots a little more. A third set, we would have started even, so I tried my best to close it out and I am very happy. It was an incredible ending."
