Anahat Singh and Tanvi Khanna made it to the semifinals of the Indian Open on Friday, marking a strong Indian presence in the women’s draw.
Their victories in the quarterfinals ensured a notable day for Indian squash, with both players showing composure and control in their respective matches.
Joshna Chinappa, however, bowed out of the competition after going down 1–3 to Egypt’s Nadien El Hammamy, ending her campaign in the tournament.
Women’s singles: Anahat Singh and Tanvi Khanna shine
Top seed Anahat Singh continued her dominant run with a comfortable straight-games win over Malaysia’s Sehveetrraa Kumar. She was in control throughout, taking the match 11-2, 11-6, 11-4 with ease.
Tanvi Khanna delivered a standout performance, upsetting fourth seed Ainaa Amani 3–1. After losing the second game, she regrouped well and stayed composed to close out the match 11-5 and 11-8 in the final two games.
Second seed Hana Moataz also advanced after a hard-fought five-game battle against eighth seed Yasshmita Jadishkumar. She held her nerve in the deciding moments to win 3–2 (11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8).
The semifinals will now see Anahat Singh take on Tanvi Khanna, while Moataz faces Nadien El Hammamy.
Men’s draw: Strong show from Indian players
Abhay Singh and Veer Chotrani produced commanding performances in the men’s quarterfinals to secure their places in the semifinals.
Second seed Abhay Singh defeated Egypt’s Yassin Shohdy 3–1 (11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7), while fourth seed Veer Chotrani was dominant in a straight-games win over Mohamed Sharaf 3–0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-2).
In the last four, Abhay Singh will face Malaysia’s Ameeshenraj Chandaran, while Veer Chotrani goes up against Sanjay Jeeva. The women’s semifinals will feature Anahat Singh against Tanvi Khanna alongside the clash between Moataz and El Hammamy.
