Thomas Tuchel announced England's squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Uruguay and Japan on Friday, March 20. Star fullbacks Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luke Shaw are notable absentees in the Three Lions' 35-member squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
England are expected to make no changes for their squad for the FIFA World Cup. Tuchel's decision to drop right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold came as a surprise to English fans after the player's recent impressive performances at Real Madrid. The former Liverpool star struggled in the Spanish capital earlier this season but was expected to earn a call in Tuchel's squad, having shown signs of good form lately.
Meanwhile, Luke Shaw is another major name missing England's squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup. Manchester United's left-back has been in good form since Michael Carrick's appointment at Old Trafford. Ollie Watkins has also failed to impress Thomas Tuchel, having scored just eight league goals this season.
Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento are called up ahead of the Alexander-Arnold and Shaw, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has taken Watkins' place in England's latest squad.

No Liverpool player in England's squad for friendlies before FIFA World Cup 2026
Thomas Tuchel has picked 35 players in his squad for the final preparations before the World Cup. But the squad features no player from the defending English Premier League champions, Liverpool.
Former Reds stars Jordan Henderson, Dominic Solanke and Jarell Quansah are part of England's squad for international friendlies against Japan and Uruguay. Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and centre-back Joe Gomez have been regulars at Anfield, but the team's poor form in the league can be a factor in their players' absence in England's squad before the FIFA World Cup 2026.
