The FIFA World Cup 2026 is expected to be the biggest sporting event in history, featuring 48 teams and 104 games across the USA, Canada, and Mexico. It will be a lifetime experience to witness the event from the stadium, but soaring ticket prices might change your mind.

The 23rd edition of the tournament will begin in Mexico on June 11, and the final will be played at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19. Due to the addition of 16 new teams, interest will peak from the very first game, which will be held between Mexico and South Africa at the Estadio Azteca in Ciudad de Mexico.

FIFA has offered several categories to distribute more general tickets, but fans are not happy with the price range. Also, fans can resell tickets of the USA matches and exchange them in Mexico, so the prices are hitting new highs every day. Some are struggling to afford the lowest-priced tickets for the group stages, while a few are ready to spend millions for the best seats in the final. So, let's take a look at the price range of FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets:

FIFA World Cup 2026 ticket prices shock fans

The expanded FIFA World Cup 2026 format will have 72 group-stage and 32 knockout matches. In December 2025, FIFA introduced a USD 60-per-ticket fee for the Supporter Entry Tier category across all 104 matches. However, these tickets were limited and are not available in the Last Minute Sales category.

The lowest price for the group stage match ticket (general category) is listed at $380 (INR 35,780), and it will go as high as $4,100 (INR 38,60,478). However, general tickets for a few group-stage games in Mexico and Canada are priced from $300 to $ 4,000.

The knockout match ticket price is approaching $1,500, and the best final ticket price is above $11,000. These numbers are expected to grow significantly in the coming days despite the fans raising their voice against the prices.

Meanwhile, FIFA also offers a platform where fans can resell tickets to the matches scheduled in the USA. This has led to a sharp rise in general-category ticket prices, with one fan offering four seats for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final in New Jersey for $2.3 million each. However, these four tickets remain unsold; if fan-favorite teams make it to the finals, someone might spend millions to buy them.

Gianni Infantino, who heads the world's football governing body, recently defended the price range of FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets. He said the tickets are priced higher than usual due to U.S. market rates.

Speaking to reporters on May 6, Infantino also added that reselling tickets is permitted in the USA and is causing a sharp rise in prices.

"We have to look at the market," Infantino said. "We are in the market in which entertainment is the most developed in the world, so we have to apply market rates. In the U.S., it is permitted to resell tickets as well, so if you were to sell tickets at a price that is too low, these tickets will be resold at a much higher price.

"And as a matter of fact, even though some people are saying that the ticket prices we have are high, they still end up on the resale market at an even higher price, more than double our price."

However, the FIFA president reiterated that the resale tickets priced at over $2.3 million might go unsold. He joked about 'personally serving a hot dog and a Coke to a person who ended up buying a $2 million ticket in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.

"If some people put on the resale market some tickets for the final at $2 million, No. 1, it doesn't mean that the tickets cost $2 million, and No. 2, it doesn't mean that somebody will buy these tickets," Infantino said. "And if somebody buys a ticket for the final for $2 million, I will personally bring a hot dog and a Coke to make sure that he has a great experience."
