The round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League came to an end in thrilling fashion. We are not into the business end of the Champions League. Teams that have made it into the quarterfinals will now focus on their next opponents to achieve the best possible results.

The competition started with 36 teams playing in the league phase. Following the conclusion of the league phase, 24 teams qualified for the next round. Then, in the playoffs, teams ranked between 9 and 24 competed against each other for a spot in the Round of 16. The Round of 16 came to an end, and now the remaining teams will face off against each other in the quarter-finals in April.

So, let’s take a look at all the teams, dates, and matches of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

Champions League quarterfinals teams

The teams that have qualified for the last eight will battle each other over two legs to secure a spot in the semifinals.

The top 8 teams are:

  5. Liverpool (England)

In the top eight teams that have reached the competition, five teams have previously lifted the trophy. The current champions are Paris Saint-Germain. The record title winners are Real Madrid, who have won the competition 15 times. Besides that, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have won the competition six times. Barcelona have lifted the historic trophy five times.

The remaining teams, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, and Sporting CP, have never won the UCL. Among these three teams, if anyone could win the trophy this season, we would see a new European champion.

Arsenal has reached the UCL final once, while Atletico Madrid has played in three finals, and, on the other hand, Sporting CP has never played in the final.

Champions League quarterfinals dates

The first leg will take place between 7th and 8th April. The second leg will be played between 14th and 15th April. Let’s take a look at which teams will play against each other on which dates.

In the quarterfinals, all teams will face each other in home-and-away matches. The team with the highest goal tally over two legs will move on to the semi-finals.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have played against each other 22 times in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. They have competed 2 times in the Round of 16, 4 times in the quarter-finals, and 8 times in the semi-finals against each other. Real Madrid has eliminated Bayern Munich 7 times, while Munich has eliminated Madrid 6 times.

Arsenal and Sporting CP will lock horns with each other for the first time in the UCL. The London club will look to continue their dominant run against the team from Lisbon.

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have competed against each other on 2 separate occasions in the UCL knockout stages. In both fixtures, Atletico Madrid has advanced to the next round. Interestingly, the two teams have only faced off against each other in the quarter-finals.

Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool have only faced each other once in the UCL knockout stages. In the last season, both clubs met each other in the Round of 16. PSG advanced to the next round on penalties.
