NEW DELHI: Former India cricketer Ajinkya Rahane has advised Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir to stay away from social media and ignore the noise around him in recent times. Gambhir has been facing criticism following India’s dry run in Test cricket, which was followed by a ODI series defeat against New Zealand. It was the first time India lost ODI series to New Zealand on home soil, adding to the pressure on the head coach. Rahane explains his view Explaining his stance, Rahane said Gambhir should not pay too much attention to what people are saying online. He pointed out that Gambhir had an excellent playing career and is now handling a very responsible role with Team India. "My only response to this is that GG should probably stay away from social media. Probably not think too much about what people are saying about him or telling him. He played his cricket in a great manner, and now he's coaching Team India, which is a very responsible job," Rahane said on Cricbuzz. Focus till the World Cup Rahane added that staying away from social media could help Gambhir maintain clarity and focus, especially with a major tournament approaching. He felt the emphasis should remain on the team and preparation rather than online chatter. "He should stay away from social media and focus on the team. That's my personal opinion. Let's just focus on the main thing: stay away from social media till the World Cup is over," he added. The next major assignment for Gambhir will be the T20 World Cup, where a strong Indian side will be aiming to defend the prestigious crown and answer criticism with performances on the field.
