Indian star batter Jemimah Rodrigues recently recalled a hilarious sledging moment from India’s one-off Test against Australia at the Wankhede Stadium in 2023, a match the hosts went on to win by eight wickets against the Alyssa Healy-led side.

Reminiscing about her time at the crease with Richa Ghosh, Jemimah revealed how their constant chatter between overs drew a playful response from the Australian skipper. As Jemimah kept offering inputs to her batting partner, Healy jokingly stepped in from behind the stumps.

“Richa and I were batting, and I was talking to her constantly between overs. Alyssa Healy from behind was like, ‘Hey, your mummy is talking, go listen to her,’” Jemimah shared on Breakfast with Champions.

The moment became instantly memorable when Richa responded in style. Off the very next ball, she carved a square cut for four and cheekily turned back with a one-liner.

“Mummy told me to hit a four,” Jemimah Rodrigues recalled, laughing.

India had a dominant outing in that Test, piling up a massive 406 in the first innings. Jemimah top-scored with 73, while Richa chipped in with a fluent 52. Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma also played key roles, scoring half-centuries to put India firmly in control.

Beyond on-field banter, Jemimah also lifted the lid on the Indian women’s team’s dressing-room culture, revealing some fun nicknames used within the squad. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, she said, is fondly known as “Thor Didi.”

“Our nicknames are pretty simple: Richu, Deepu, Jemu. Harman is Thor Didi, Harmanpreet Thor. On the field, she looks aggressive, but off the field she’s very emotional. She’ll give everything for you,” Jemimah explained.

Speaking further about the team’s camaraderie, the Mumbai-born batter described herself and Harleen Deol as the squad’s unofficial “Chief Fun Officers.”

“We have team bonding dinners, and I play a key role there. Once during the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, we even did a treasure hunt in the hotel. The most enthusiastic person was Amol sir—he would call me days in advance asking if I had planned something,” she said.

Jemimah Rodrigues on leading Delhi Capitals in WPL 2026

Jemimah also opened up about being appointed captain of Delhi Capitals ahead of the Women’s Premier League 2026 season. The 25-year-old admitted that while the role excites her, it also brings nerves.

“I’ve always loved leadership. I’ve been leading Mumbai since I was 16 or 17, and whenever I’ve had captaincy, the added responsibility has brought the best out of me. As a leader, I want to lead by example. I’m still nervous, I’ve never led a franchise team before,” she said.

Delhi Capitals will begin their WPL 2026 campaign against Mumbai Indians on January 10 at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, with all eyes on how the side performs under their new full-time skipper.
