NEW DELHI: India will get a final chance to test themselves when they take on Bangladesh on Sunday at the DY Patil Stadium, in what will act as a dress rehearsal ahead of their Women’s World Cup semifinal against Australia next Wednesday. India face tough challenge against Australia in Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-final India are already confirmed to finish fourth in the points table, so a win over Bangladesh will not change their standing. A victory would take them to a maximum of eight points, while England, currently third with nine points, could increase their tally to 11 if they beat New Zealand on Sunday. The Indian team secured a semifinal spot in a rain-affected match against New Zealand, but the contest did not push them to the limit. Batting first, India took full advantage of the conditions to post 340 for 3 in 49 overs, with centuries from openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. Jemimah Rodrigues added a brisk unbeaten 76 at No. 3, giving India the momentum they needed. The bowlers then restricted New Zealand to 271 for 8 in 44 overs, with Renuka Singh Thakur swinging the new ball to claim two early wickets. While the scoreboard pressure helped, India will also value the chance to gain more experience bowling in dew if they field second. Mandhana’s 105 off 95 balls with 10 fours and four sixes was outstanding, while Rawal grew in confidence to score 122 from 134 balls with 13 fours and two sixes, though she faced 63 dot balls. The match highlighted India’s dominance but also pointed to areas for improvement, particularly in converting starts into faster scoring. Harmanpreet Kaur, who has had a quiet World Cup so far with only a 70 against England standing out, will look to find form and build momentum for the semifinals. Richa Ghosh did not get a chance to bat in the final overs against New Zealand and also suffered a finger injury, being replaced by Uma Chetry. The wicketkeeper-batter remains a key player in the lower order, capable of resisting pressure but needing to deliver aggressive finishes. Bangladesh’s campaign ended recently against Sri Lanka, falling just short in a dramatic final over despite strong performances from Shorna Akter (3/27), Nigar Sultana (77), and Sharmin Akhter (64 not out). They will finish at the bottom of the table, ahead of only two teams with washouts affecting the points.
