In a major boost for Gujarat Titans ahead of their clash against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2026, opener Sai Sudharsan confirmed that skipper Shubman Gill will be available for Wednesday’s match.

Sai Sudharsan confirms Shubman Gill return

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Sudharsan put all doubts to rest regarding Gill’s participation.

“Shubman is coming along well. He will be playing tomorrow,” he stated.

Gill had missed the previous clash against Rajasthan Royals due to a muscle spasm. In his absence, Rashid Khan stepped in to lead the side. However, GT clearly felt the absence of their captain at the top of the order as they slipped to a narrow six-run defeat in a last-over finish.

Return brings relief for struggling GT

Shubman Gill's return is a huge relief for a struggling Gujarat side that has already lost two games early in the season. Kumar Kushagra, who came in as a replacement, managed just 18 runs and the impact of Gill’s absence was evident.

With their skipper back, Gujarat Titans will be hoping to regain stability and get their campaign back on track.

Sai Sudharsan backs middle order

Sudharsan also expressed strong belief in the team’s middle order, especially the presence of Washington Sundar and Glenn Phillips. He pointed out that while contributions from the top order remain crucial, the side has enough depth to handle different situations.

“If someone from the top three bats longer, it always helps the team. But we have full confidence in our middle order. This is largely the same group that qualified last season, so it’s just a matter of time before things fall into place. We believe the middle order will win games for us,” he said.

Talking about the changing nature of T20 cricket, Sudharsan admitted that constant improvement is key in the format. He noted that batting standards continue to rise rapidly, making adaptability an essential trait for modern players.

“The game is evolving very quickly, almost every few months. It’s important for me to keep learning and add new options to my game so I can stay effective in different situations,” he explained.

On his preparation for the current season, Sudharsan highlighted the importance of mental clarity and situational awareness, particularly while chasing big totals.

“There wasn’t anything very specific, but I focused a lot on understanding how to approach big chases and what decisions to take in those moments. Having the right mindset is very important. I’ve spent time on that through yoga, meditation and visualization to stay mentally sharp,” he added.
