Tilak Varma may not have featured in India’s playing XI for the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur, but he left a mark with a spectacular fielding effort that saved five crucial runs. Coming on as a substitute fielder during South Africa’s chase of 359, Tilak pulled off a breathtaking moment in the 20th over.

South Africa opener Aiden Markram attempted a big hit off Kuldeep Yadav’s fourth delivery, lofting the ball towards long-on. Positioned perfectly, Tilak leapt high and caught the ball with both hands. Realising he was carried beyond the boundary line, he showcased remarkable presence of mind and athleticism, tossing the ball back into the field before his boot touched the rope.

Earlier in the day, Tilak also participated in the launch of India’s T20I World Cup jersey alongside tournament ambassador Rohit Sharma at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium during the mid-innings break.

The 23-year-old will return to action later this month in the five-match T20I series against South Africa. He was named in a 15-man squad led by Suryakumar, announced on Monday.
