NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand left-arm pacer Rajan Kumar has failed a dope test and has been handed a provisional suspension by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in a rare case involving a cricketer.

The 29-year-old Kumar’s sample tested positive for anabolic steroids Drostanolone and Metenolone, as well as Clomifene, a medication generally used to treat infertility in women but also known to restore testosterone levels in men.

Kumar last represented Uttarakhand against Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Group D match in Ahmedabad on December 8, 2025.

Rare Cases of Doping in Cricket

Doping cases in Indian cricket remain rare. Earlier instances include Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Anshula Rao, who was caught in 2020, and Prithvi Shaw, who failed a dope test in 2019.

Other Athletes Facing Provisional Suspensions

Footballer Nongmaithem Ratanbala Devi also appeared on the latest list of athletes handed provisional suspensions. Her sample tested positive for the anabolic steroid Metandienone.

  • Khushboo Kumari (weightlifting)
  • Achalveer Karwasra (boxing)
  • Siddhant Sharma (polo)

Dhanalakshmi Sekar Banned

Tamil Nadu sprinter Dhanalakshmi Sekar has been handed an eight-year ban, effective from September 9, 2025, after failing a dope test for the second time in her career.

The 27-year-old tested positive for anabolic steroid Drostanolone in September 2025. She had previously served a three-year ban in 2022 for another doping offence and had returned to competitive action in 2025.
