India have been soaring high under Suryakumar Yadav, the T20I captain. But the Indian skipper has been ridiculously poor with the bat in hand in 2025. Infact, the situation is so dire that many have started questioning his legitimacy as India's number 3 in the format.

His batting statistics in 2025 tell you the whole story. The modern Mr. 360 hasn't scored a single half-century this year. His closest score to that landmark was the 47 runs he made against Pakistan in the first Asia Cup fixture between the two rivals. Apart from that, Suryakumar Yadav hasn't crossed the 15-run mark even once this year. For a batter of his stature, this is a horrendous low phase. Something that hasn't really come under the spotlight.

And that's because of the many young superstars who have been shining throughout this year. Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma and co. have made sure that their Captain's poor form in the format hasn't affected Team India at all. During the England series, Suryakumar Yadav managed a meagre 28 runs in 5 matches, getting out for a duck on 2 occasions. Apart from the 47 against Pakistan, he has contributed only 12 runs in the Asia Cup in 3 innings.
Against Bangladesh in India's 2nd Super 4 fixture of the Asia Cup, Suryakumar Yadav gloved the ball that was going for a wide to the keeper, succumbing to yet another single-digit total of 5 runs.
His T20I batting average in 2025 stands at just 12.43, having scored just 87 runs in 9 innings and getting dismissed 7 times. His strike rate, once a key differentiator that ranked him above his peers, is now just below 113. Not once has he been the point of difference for his nation this year, and while it hasn't been a major factor in the team's success, it's not something one can ignore for long.
