Sunrisers Hyderabad registered an impressive 10-run win against Chennai Super Kings to win back-to-back matches for the first time in IPL 2026. SRH defended 194 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium after fifties from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen, and three wickets from Eshan Malinga.

The five-time champions took the game to the wire, but SRH bowlers stayed calm to deliver. A third win of the season took Sunrisers Hyderabad to fourth place in the points table.

Jamie Overton and Anhshul Kamboj help CSK survive Abhishek Sharma’s wrath

After being forced to bat first, Abhishek Sharma gave Sunrisers Hyderabad a fiery start by smashing a 15-ball fifty, the fastest for the team in IPL history. SRH posted 80 runs in the powerplay and looked comfortable for a huge total, but Jamie Overton had other plans for the hosts at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Overton dismissed Ahishek and Aniket Verma in quick succession to slow down SRH’s hammering after the powerplay. Heinrich Klaasen continued his dream run with another fifty, but the South African veteran took 39 balls to score 59 runs.

In-form right-arm pacer Anshul Kmaboj made a late impact with three wickets and took the lead in the Purple Cap race. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Liam Livingstone failed to provide a strong finish as Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 194/9. Kamboj and Overton took three wickets each to help CSK overcome Abhishek’s onslaught in the powerplay and deny the hosts a huge total.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s poor run continues

Chasing a 195-run target, Sanju Samson started with a six off Praful Hinge, but fell in the second over to Nitish Kumar Reddy. Then Ayush Mhatre and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad added a quick 51 runs for the second wicket to take control of the match. Gaikwad looked in good touch with three fours as CSK added 60 runs in the first four overs.

However, Ayush Mhatre suffered a hamstring injury in the fifth over, and that broke CSK’s momentum completely. Nitish dismissed Mhatre in the same over and Gaikwad fell to Eshan Malinga in the last over of the powerplay.

Gaikwad scored 19 off 13 balls and was caught behind while attempting a big shot on a short delivery. The former Orange Cap winner has scored 82 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 112.32 this season and is looking miserable with the bat.

Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers dominate the middle overs

Matthew Short and Sarfaraz Khan added 46 runs for the fourth wicket to keep CSK alive in the game, but both players failed to maintain a good run rate. Sarfaraz threw away his wicket after scoring 25 runs off 19 balls in the 11th over and CSK lost the fit-again Dewald Brevis on a four-ball duck in the following over.

Matthew Short and Shivam Dube kept the game balanced, with the former scoring 34 runs off 30 balls. Both players struggled to accelerate in the middle overs as the required run rate shot past 11 before the start of the death overs.

Malinga proved crucial for the hosts with three big wickets. The Sri Lankan pacer dismissed Short in the 16th over to put Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead in the game, and finished with match-winning figures of 3 for 29 in four overs.

Sakib Hussain, who made his IPL debut with four wickets in the last match, also contributed with economical overs. He dismissed Shivam Dube in the crucial 17th over, conceding just six runs and that proved the match-turning moment.

CSK never recovered in the death overs, with Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj failing to find quick runs. Praful Hinge, who won the Player of the Match in the last game for Sunrisers Hyderabad, leaked 53 runs in his first three overs, but defended 18 runs in the 20th over by conceding just seven runs.
