NEW DELHI: Bangladesh’s spin attack dominated as the team thrashed West Indies by 179 runs in the third and final ODI on Thursday, clinching the series 2-1.

All 10 wickets fell to Bangladesh’s spinners in a commanding display that marked the team’s second-biggest ODI victory overall and largest ever against the Caribbean side. The win also gave Bangladesh its first ODI series triumph since March 2024, ending a run of four consecutive series losses in between.

Rishad Hossain starred with 3-54, taking his series wicket tally to 12, the highest by a Bangladesh spinner in a single ODI series. Left-arm slow bowler Nasum Ahmed ripped through the top order with 3-11, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanvir Islam claimed two wickets each. Paceman Mustafizur Rahman was not required to bowl.

Earlier, Bangladesh openers Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar laid a strong foundation with a 176-run partnership after captain Mehidy Hasan won the toss and elected to bat. Sarkar scored 91 off 86 balls, hitting seven fours and four sixes, while Hassan notched his maiden fifty in his sixth ODI, finishing 80 off 72 balls with six fours and six sixes, as Bangladesh posted 296-8.

For West Indies, Akeal Hosain, who had starred in the thrilling Super Over win in the second ODI, took a career-best 4-41. However, he struggled earlier against Sarkar and Hassan on a pitch offering better bounce than in the previous matches. Najmul Hossain Shanto added 55 before Akeal removed three wickets in a single over. Nasum then returned to claim three more wickets, leaving West Indies reeling at 35-3.

The teams will next face off in a T20 series in Chattogram, starting October 27.
