Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma among 7 players dropped from India A squad
India A last played a one-day cricket match in November 2025, when they defeated South Africa A 2-1 in a three-match series in Rajkot. Tilak Varma led the strong side, featuring Ruturaj Gaikwad as his deputy and Abhishek Sharma as a first-choice opener.
Abhishek and Tilak failed to impress, but Gaikwad clinched the Player of the Series award, scoring 210 runs in three innings. He was later promoted to India's ODI squad for the South Africa series in December and he proved his potential with his maiden century in Raipur.
The Men in Blues are scheduled to face Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series starting June 14, and Gaikwad is likely to keep his place. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma is expected to feature in India's T20I squad for the T20I series against Ireland starting in late June.
Among the other players dropped from the India A squad are Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Kishan, Manav Suthar, Prasidh Krishna and Khaleel Ahmed. Both Arshdeep and Prasidh are tipped to make the ODI squad for the Afghanistan series, and Ishan is likely to be part of the T20I setup.
