In order to achieve the milestone, Mandhana was required to score just 18 runs to reach the landmark. Mandhana got off to a slow start with her innings before upping the ante. Mandhana reached the landmark when she hit Aussie Sophie Molineux for both a four and a six in the eighth over. Earlier, Australia captain Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to bowl first, with Molineux coming in for changes to the lineup in place of Georgia Wareham. India did not make any lineup changes after their last outing against South Africa.

The achievement concludes an extraordinary year for Mandhana, who has accrued more than 1,000 runs in only 18 matches at an average above 55. Her contribution includes seven scores over fifty runs, with four centuries and a strike rate of over 110. Earlier in the competition, Mandhana claimed the record for the most runs in a single year, surpassing the previous record of 970 runs set by Australia's Belinda Clark in 1997.
Her run haul of 2025 has been remarkable, featuring a stunning century off 50 balls — the second fastest all-time in women’s ODI history. Notably, her four hundreds rank second most ever in a calendar year, only behind South Africa's Tazmin Britz with five. Mandhana also posted four hundreds in 2024, confirming her quality and continued dominance in the women's game.
