NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill is expected to return for the T20 International series against South Africa as vice captain after recovering from the neck injury that ruled him out of the ongoing ODI leg, a BCCI source said on Wednesday.
Gill, who captains India in Tests and ODIs, sustained the injury during the opening Test in Kolkata and subsequently missed the second Test in Guwahati along with the ODI series.

“Gill has recovered fully and will be back as vice captain,” the source said.
The squad for the five match T20I series beginning December 9 in Cuttack will be named later in the day. Suryakumar Yadav remains India’s regular T20I captain.
The source also dismissed speculation of Board officials holding a meeting with senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir amid talk of dressing room friction.
“No meeting will take place mid series. We will see what needs to be done once the series ends,” the source added.
India lost the Test series 0-2.
