Shubman Gill has reached Odisha ahead of the IND vs SA 1st T20I, marking his full recovery from the neck injury that sidelined him during the recent Test and ODI series. The Indian vice-captain missed the second Test and all three ODIs against South Africa after picking up the injury during the opening Test at Eden Gardens. He later underwent rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence before being declared match-fit.
Shubman Gill joins the squad in Bhubaneswar

According to Cricbuzz, Gill landed in Bhubaneswar on Sunday night in preparation for the first T20I, scheduled to be played at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on December 9. He reportedly arrived around 9 PM after a full day of travel. Meanwhile, members of India’s ODI squad flew into the city earlier in the day via charter flight from Visakhapatnam.
Though selected for the T20I leg subject to his fitness, the clearance arrived just after the ODI series. Head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that the opener is ready for action and eager to return to the shortest format.
“Yes, Shubman is ready to start. That’s why he has been selected. And obviously he is fit and fine, hungry to go,” Gambhir said.
