He commenced his innings on 20* and reached it in style during the morning session. However, drama ensued when a communication error with Yashasvi Jaiswal led to a run-out, falling just 25 short of what would have been a well-deserved third double century. Gill was the third on India's all-time list to reach 1000 runs in just 17 innings, behind Sunil Gavaskar (14 innings) and Virat Kohli (16 innings). At the same time, Ravindra Jadeja and Yashasvi Jaiswal are also looking to surpass Rohit Sharma's 2716 runs in WTC runs, while maintaining India's top-order dominance for the foreseeable future.
