NEW DELHI: As the IPL 2026 retention deadline approaches, franchises have gone into full swing to finalise their squads ahead of the mini auction. On Thursday, Gujarat Titans traded West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford to Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs 2.6 crore.

"Acquired by GT for a fee of INR 2.6 crore, Rutherford will move to MI at his existing fee," said the IPL in a statement.

The 27-year-old cricketer has represented the West Indies in 44 T20 Internationals and holds the record for the highest sixth-wicket partnership in the format - a 139-run stand with Andre Russell against Australia in Perth.

In the IPL, Rutherford has featured in 23 matches so far, turning out for Delhi Capitals in 2019 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2022. He was also part of the Mumbai Indians squad in 2020 and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024, though he didn't get a game in either season.

With over 200 T20 appearances and more than 3,500 runs to his name, Rutherford has built a reputation for his ability to light up scoreboards around the world.

The hard-hitting southpaw's explosive batting and knack for delivering impactful cameos, combined with his useful right-arm medium pace, add both balance and firepower - making him a perfect fit for Mumbai Indians’ dynamic style of cricket.
