Playing his first T20 match in two years, Sarfaraz Khan marked his return in style by smashing his maiden T20 century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Mumbai batter scored a 47-ball hundred against Assam at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium B in Lucknow during SMAT 2025.

In his 100-run innings, Khan hit 8 boundaries and 7 sixes, while also forging a crucial 50-run partnership off just 37 balls with Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav. His knock helped Mumbai post a formidable 220/4 in 20 overs. Khan was included in the playing XI in place of Shivam Dube and was promoted up the order, taking full advantage of the opportunity.

Sarfaraz Khan puts himself in spotlight ahead of IPL 2026 Auction

Sarfaraz Khan

SMAT 2025 has seen several standout performances, and for many players, the tournament serves as a platform ahead of the IPL 2026 auction scheduled for 16 December. With his maiden T20 ton, Sarfaraz has sent a strong message to franchises about his form and readiness.

Sarfaraz made his IPL debut for RCB in 2015 at just 17 years and 177 days, becoming the youngest player to feature in the league at that time. Despite a bright start, his IPL journey has been inconsistent. After going unsold in the previous edition, the 28-year-old will hope this explosive performance grabs attention ahead of the mini-auction.

The knock is also a timely boost for Mumbai, who are set to miss Suryakumar Yadav and possibly Shivam Dube for the next round of SMAT matches due to international commitments.
