Sanju Samson’s power-packed century and Akeal Hosein’s spin web helped Chennai Super Kings register their biggest IPL win by runs over arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

CSK completely outplayed MI in all departments and sealed a dominant 103-run victory, a result that will give them a much-needed boost going ahead in the tournament.

Sanju Samson stands tall with unbeaten century

After being invited to bat first, CSK got off to a decent start. Ruturaj Gaikwad departed for 22 runs, but Samson was the star of the show. He stood tall with an unbeaten 101 off 54 deliveries, including 10 fours and 6 sixes, and ensured CSK had more than enough on the board.

Apart from him, Dewald Brevis contributed 21 runs, while no other batter crossed the 25-run mark. At the end, CSK posted 207 for 6 in 20 overs.

For Mumbai, it was a decent bowling effort overall. Ashwani Kumar and AM Ghazanfar picked up two wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner chipped in with one wicket each. However, skipper Hardik Pandya conceded 38 runs in his two overs, which proved costly.

MI crumble under pressure in chase

Chasing 208, Mumbai Indians looked like they had a chance, but they got off to a horrific start. Danish Malewar and Naman Dhir were dismissed without scoring, putting the side under immediate pressure. Quinton de Kock too failed to make an impact and scored just 7 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma tried to steady the innings with 36 and 37 runs respectively, but the required rate kept climbing. CSK bowlers maintained tight lines and never allowed MI to get going as the innings folded for just 104 in 19 overs.

Akeal Hosein lead CSK’s bowling dominance

It was Akeal Hosein who set the tone with the ball, striking early in the powerplay and removing key batters. He picked up four wickets for just 17 runs and played a crucial role in breaking the backbone of Mumbai’s batting.

Apart from him, Noor Ahmad took two wickets, while the rest of the bowlers chipped in with one each to complete a clinical team performance as CSK sealed a commanding win.
