The Indian Premier League has been a platform for rookies to become the next Virat Kohli or Jasprit Bumrah. In the past, youngsters, both domestic and international, have earned stardom overnight with match-winning performances and are now part of national teams.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who had a breakout 2025 season, is now dominating the IPL 2026 with record-laden 500-plus runs and is in contention for the Orange Cap. In 2024, Nitish Kumar Reddy made the headlines with his all-round performances in IPL, and is now part of India's both Test and ODI setups.

From IPL 2026, we have picked up three debutants who have impressed with their raw potential, which gives a glimpse into the future.

1. Sakib Hussain (SRH)

Sakib Hussain, the 21-year-old right-arm medium pacer, didn't feature in SRH's first three games this season, but came on as an impact player against RR and took 4 wickets on his IPL debut. He didn't concede a six in his first four innings, showcasing his raw talent on the big stage.

His big moment came in SRH's must-win game against RCB, in which he claimed Virat Kohli's valuable wicket while defending a big total. Earlier, he trapped KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, and Ajinkya Rahane to show his brilliance against technically strong players.

Sakib managed to pick up at least one wicket in each of his innings until the Eliminator clash against RR. He finished his debut campaign with 15 wickets in 11 innings at an average of 25.35 and an economy rate of 9.33, cementing his place in SRH's squad for the next season.

2. Kartik Sharma (CSK)

Kartik Sharma was bought by CSK for INR 14.2 crore in the auction before the IPL 2026 season. The 20-year-old batter entered the tournament under the pressure of the hefty price tag and also faces fans' criticism after a shaky start.

Ruturaj Gaikwad drafted the struggling youngster in the No. 4 role ahead of Dewald Brevis against the Mumbai Indians, and that proved a masterstroke. Kartik, against his aggressive style of play, nurtured an anchor role and scored an unbeaten fifty. He scored an unbeaten 41 against Delhi and registered his highest score of 71 off 42 against LSG.

Katrik finished his debut campaign with 295 runs in 11 innings, the third-highest for CSK after Samson and Gaikwad. His batting average of 32.77 and strike rate of 136.57 further demonstrated his consistency in the middle order.

3. Yash Raj Punja powers RR to IPL 2026 Qualifier 2

Rajasthan Royals began their season with Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Bishnoi as their preferred spin attack, but by the end of the league stages, the world witnessed Yash Raj Punja emerge as their best spinner in IPL 2026.

The 19-year-old leggie from Karnataka came out of nowhere in the second half of the season, having played no domestic cricket before. Towing at 6 feet 6 inches, Punja overshadowed both Jadeja and Bishnoi, picking up crucial wickets when needed. He clinched nine wickets in seven innings at an economy rate of 8.92, playing a big role in RR's run into the Qualifier 2.

Meanwhile, IPL 2026 also witnessed the rise of fast bowler Ashok Sharma, who delivered a 154.2 kph delivery to Dhruv Jurel. The 23-year-old GT pacer failed to keep his place in GT's eleven in the second half of the season, but left a mark with his pace in IPL 2026.

Punjab Kings' Cooper Connolly, already an established star in international cricket, made the headlines in his rookie season, scoring 491 runs at a strike rate of 163.12. Praful Hinge, Allah Ghazanfar, Pathum Nissanka and Brijesh Sharma also had an impactful first IPL season.
