NEW DELHI: Whether he falls early or bats deep into the innings, Rohit Sharma's stay at the crease almost always features towering sixes struck at will, and the Indian star added yet another milestone during the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara on Sunday.

During his brief knock of 26 off 29 balls while chasing a target of 301, Rohit clobbered a couple of sixes to become the first batter to hit 650 sixes in international cricket.

Rohit's record is likely to stand for a long time, as the next three batters on the list - Chris Gayle (553 sixes), Shahid Afridi (476) and Brendon McCullum (398) - have all retired from international cricket. England's Jos Buttler is the only active cricketer in the top 10, with 387 sixes.

The former India captain also became the opener with the most ODI sixes, now boasting 329 maximums to his name.

Rohit, known for his six-hitting prowess across formats, finished his Test career with 88 sixes in 67 matches. In T20Is, he smashed 205 sixes in 159 games, while in ODIs, he has 357 sixes to his name.

Rohit also holds the record for hitting the most sixes in ODIs and T20Is, cementing his reputation as one of the most destructive batters of his generation.
