Lucknow Super Giants’ campaign in IPL 2026 has been hit with another setback as skipper Rishabh Pant suffered an injury during the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The left-hand batter took a painful blow on his elbow, which forced him to walk off the field midway through the innings.
Pant, who has already been struggling for runs this season, now faces another concern. If the injury turns out to be serious, it could become a massive headache for the LSG camp, who have already had a mixed start to the tournament and are still searching for rhythm.
How did Rishabh Pant get injured?
The incident happened during the fifth over when Josh Hazlewood bowled a short delivery outside off. Pant attempted an aggressive shot across the line but failed to connect properly. The ball took an inside edge and struck him flush on the elbow.
Pant looked in immediate discomfort and the physio came out quickly and had a look at him as he stood there in pain. After a brief check, Pant decided to walk off the field, which raised serious concern among the fans and the team management.
LSG struggle continues in powerplay
Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants once again had a poor start with the bat. In the powerplay, the side managed just 35 runs and lost early momentum. Aiden Markram departed early for 12, while Pant had to retire hurt without scoring.
This now puts a lot of responsibility on Mitchell Marsh at the top of the order. With the batting unit struggling for consistency, LSG once again find themselves under pressure to put up a competitive total.
Pant's poor stint with Lucknow
Pant, who is the most expensive player in IPL history, has not really delivered with the bat. Last season was a flop show for him as he struggled to get going throughout the tournament. Even his stint with LSG so far has not been very convincing.
In the previous season, the side finished seventh and Pant could not make a big impact either as a batter or as a leader. This year too, he has managed just one notable knock of 62 but apart from that he is yet to fire consistently.
