The Pakistan Cricket Board has reportedly imposed strict financial penalties on members of the Pakistan team following their Super Eights exit from the T20 World Cup 2026.

According to reports, the board has fined each underperforming player PKR 5 million (approximately ₹17 lakh) after Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the 20-team tournament. The list of players facing the penalty includes captain Babar Azam, senior pacer Shaheen Afridi and all-rounder Shadab Khan.

Pakistan were drawn in Group A alongside arch-rivals India, the Netherlands, Namibia and the United States. They secured wins over the associate nations to progress to the Super Eights, but their campaign unraveled in the next stage, resulting in an early exit from the tournament.

As per sources quoted by The Express Tribune, the PCB took the decision after concluding that repeated leniency toward poor performances could no longer continue. The board has also reportedly conveyed that future financial incentives will be strictly performance-based, with players required to justify their place in the side to earn rewards.

The move signals a tougher stance from the PCB as it seeks accountability following another underwhelming ICC tournament showing.
