Lucknow Super Giants suffered a dramatic batting collapse as they fell short by 40 runs against Rajasthan Royals. Chasing 160, they were bowled out for 119 in 18 overs, never truly recovering after losing wickets at regular intervals.

Skipper Rishabh Pant’s dismissal proved to be the turning point as he attempted a reckless sweep-cum-hoick and lost momentum for his side. Despite a fighting effort from Mitchell Marsh, who scored a well-compiled 55 off 41 balls, the rest of the batting unit failed to support him. Nicholas Pooran and Himmat Singh also fell cheaply, leaving LSG in trouble early in the chase.

Mohammed Shami and Mohsin Khan dominate with the ball

Rajasthan Royals were restricted to 159/6 earlier in the game, thanks to a disciplined bowling performance led by Mohammed Shami and Mohsin Khan.

Shami was outstanding with figures of 2/30, removing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel in quick succession to break RR’s top order. Mohsin Khan supported him brilliantly with 2/17, troubling batters with bounce and movement while dismissing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Shimron Hetmyer.

Prince Yadav also impressed with 2/29, ensuring Rajasthan never got full control in the middle overs.

Despite early setbacks, Ravindra Jadeja anchored the innings with an unbeaten 43 off 29 balls. His calm approach under pressure ensured Rajasthan Royals reached a fighting total. He also contributed with the ball later in the match by dismissing Nicholas Pooran at a crucial stage.

Lucknow Super Giants falter in pressure chase

LSG’s chase never gained momentum after early strikes. The impact substitution of Himmat Singh failed to change the game, and the middle order collapsed under pressure. Only Mitchell Marsh showed resistance, while others struggled against disciplined bowling.

Rajasthan Royals’ bowling unit-maintained control throughout the innings. Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger also played important roles by striking at key moments to break partnerships and stop any LSG recovery.

Despite a modest batting performance, Rajasthan’s bowlers ensured a comprehensive defence of their total.
