Quinton De Kock’s century lifts MI after early collapse
After being put in to bat, Mumbai Indians had a shaky start as they lost two quick wickets for just 12 runs. Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav fell early, putting the side under pressure.
However, Quinton de Kock, playing his first game of the season, held one end brilliantly and produced a sensational unbeaten century. He scored 112 runs off 60 deliveries, including 8 fours and 7 sixes, anchoring the innings with authority.
He found strong support from Naman Dhir, who contributed a fine half-century, scoring 50 runs off 31 balls. The partnership helped Mumbai Indians recover and post a competitive total of 195 for 6 in their 20 overs.
For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh was the standout performer, picking up three wickets for just 22 runs. Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh chipped in with one wicket each.
Prabhsimran Singh, Shreyas Iyer power Punjab Kings to comfortable chase
Chasing 196, Punjab Kings made it look easy as they completed the target in just 16.3 overs. Priyansh Arya got the side off to a brisk start but departed for 15 runs.
It was then Prabhsimran Singh who played a match-winning knock, remaining unbeaten on 80 off 39 balls, including 11 fours and 2 sixes. He was well supported by skipper Shreyas Iyer, who scored a quickfire 66 off 35 deliveries.
The duo stitched together a 139-run partnership in just 66 balls, completely taking the game away from Mumbai Indians and sealing a comfortable win.
MI bowlers struggle once again
Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack failed to make an impact. Jasprit Bumrah endured another wicketless outing, conceding 41 runs in his four overs and never quite finding his rhythm.
Allah Ghazanfar picked up two wickets, while Shardul Thakur managed one. However, the effort was not enough to contain a strong Punjab Kings batting lineup.
Mumbai Indians will need to rethink their strategies quickly, as their struggles continue in the tournament.
