Early in 2025, Yashasvi Jaiswal found himself facing a notice from India’s anti-doping body due to a missed test. Around the same time, Shafali Verma also received similar communication over an unscheduled lapse. Neither athlete was present when testers arrived, triggering protocol steps. This marks their initial entry into such proceedings under monitoring rules.

Both belong to the group tracked closely for doping checks. While no substances were involved, absence alone raised flags. Procedures followed standard paths after the unannounced visit failed. Details emerged only once formal notices went out. Before this, clean records defined their standing. Now, compliance history carries a new note.

One report said both players skipped the planned tests without explaining why. Because of that, they got official notices. According to a source cited by PTI, word reached the athletes, the BCCI, and the ICC about what happened.

BCCI reacts after NADA notices to Indian cricketers

Word came from someone close to BCCI - the board got a message from NADA about skipped doping checks. Moving ahead, adjustments will happen so these gaps don’t repeat. What matters now is staying on track.

“Yes, we have received notification from NADA on missed tests. We will check with them as to how it happened, and will take necessary steps so that such things do not happen in future,” the source told PTI.

“Cricket is back in the Olympics, and we need to adhere to all the protocols so that everything goes on smoothly,” the source added.

Every athlete on NADA’s testing list must keep their location info current. Availability for checks is expected daily within a set window. Skipping three check-ins or failing to report changes on time counts as a breach.

Such lapses, if they happen close together, trigger sanctions under clean sport rules. Being unreachable when scheduled holds consequences.

Thirteen Indian cricketers now appear on NADA’s RTP roster this quarter. Not just Jaiswal or Shafali - names like Shubman Gill show up too. Hardik Pandya slips into that group, along with Rishabh Pant waiting nearby. KL Rahul stands listed, much like Jasprit Bumrah further down. Tilak Varma appears there, while Arshdeep Singh rounds out the names.

Now part of the updated RTP list are Abhishek Sharma and Axar Patel, stepping in for Smriti Mandhana and Shreyas Iyer. On the women's side, names like Deepti Sharma join alongside Renuka Singh.

Cricket has seen its share of doping issues through the years. Back before the 2003 World Cup, Shane Warne popped up on a drug test with a prohibited diuretic in his system. After that result came out, Cricket Australia stepped in and handed him a full-year suspension.

In 2006, Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif showed traces of nandrolone in their tests. At first, the PCB slapped penalties on them both. Yet those punishments vanished after questions popped up about how the test was handled.
