Mumbai duo Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube's role in T20 World Cup glory
Suryakumar Yadav, who captained India during the tournament, played a crucial role with the bat as well. The right-hander scored 242 runs in nine matches and finished as India’s third-highest run-scorer in the competition. While his explosive knock against the USA in India’s opening game set the tone for the campaign, it was his leadership that stood out as he guided the team through the tournament with composure.
Shivam Dube also enjoyed a productive campaign and played an important role in India lifting the trophy for the second consecutive time. Batting in the middle order, the left-hander amassed 235 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of over 169. His ability to dominate spin in the middle overs proved vital in several matches.

India eventually sealed the title with a commanding victory over New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Powered by strong batting performances from Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, India posted a massive 255/5 before bowling out New Zealand for 159 to complete a 96-run victory.
The triumph created multiple milestones. India became the first team to win a T20 World Cup on home soil and also the first side to successfully defend the title after their 2024 victory. It also marked India’s third T20 World Cup crown, adding to the titles won in 2007 and 2024.
