As Team India arrives in Ranchi for the opening ODI against South Africa on November 30, excitement is building in the city, which is set to host its first international match since February 2024. But one question is catching the attention of fans: Will MS Dhoni host the Indian team at his iconic Ranchi farmhouse once again?

Dhoni has a long-standing tradition of inviting teammates whether from Team India or Chennai Super Kings whenever cricket brings them to his hometown. Over the years, Ranchi has witnessed several memorable evenings at Dhoni’s residence. However, since his international retirement in 2020, the former India captain hasn’t hosted the national squad as frequently.

With Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and Dhoni himself in Ranchi for the series opener, speculation about a potential get-together has intensified.

If a gathering does happen, it will almost certainly be at Dhoni’s expansive seven-acre farmhouse, an iconic property admired by players who’ve visited before. One of the most memorable team evenings occurred in 2019, ahead of an India–Australia ODI, when the entire squad spent time at Dhoni’s home.

Kohli arrived in Ranchi on Wednesday morning after returning from London and being named in India’s ODI squad. India last played in Ranchi during the 2024 Test series against England, a match Kohli missed due to the birth of his second child, Akaay. Other squad members are expected to assemble soon.

Amid the buzz, Dhoni has been a regular presence at the JSCA Stadium. Reports suggest he has been undergoing intense four-and-a-half-hour training sessions, including gym work, power-hitting routines, and match simulations, as he prepares for IPL 2026.

With CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirming Dhoni’s participation in the upcoming IPL season, the legendary captain is gearing up for what could be his final outing. At 44, he is set to become the second-oldest player to feature in the league. It will mark Dhoni’s 17th season with CSK and his 19th IPL season overall. The franchise’s recent trade for Sanju Samson could also ease Dhoni’s workload behind the stumps.
