NEW DELHI: Mohammed Shami’s hot form in the domestic circuit continued as the pacer picked up another fifer in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 on Saturday.

Representing Bengal in their clash against Services, Shami sent a strong message to the national selectors that he is completely fit and ready for a return to the Indian team. The pacer has been out of the Indian side since the Champions Trophy final in 2025.

Dominant bowling performance

After Bengal gained a handy lead and enforced the follow-on, the team once again delivered a strong bowling performance, dismantling Services’ lineup in the second innings. Shami played a key role in putting Bengal in a commanding position to seal the victory.

The pacer picked up five wickets for 51 runs in 16 overs, consistently hitting the right line and length. Even on a pitch that offered little assistance to bowlers, Shami troubled the batsmen regularly, showcasing his skill and experience.

Off-field controversy

Despite returning to full fitness, Shami has been left out of the Indian team. This has led to an online spat between Shami and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar. Shami criticized Agarkar for sidelining him despite his readiness and commitment to international duties.

Agarkar had previously stated that Shami’s inclusion would depend on the team’s requirements whenever he was fit, but the pacer feels he has been unfairly overlooked.
