NEW DELHI: India captain Suryakumar Yadav’s poor run with the bat continued in a crucial T20 World Cup 2026 clash against West Indies. Chasing 196 in a virtual quarter final, India were under pressure early at 41 for 2. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan were already back in the pavilion.
The spotlight was firmly on SKY at number four. But he never looked in rhythm.
He struggled to middle the ball and found it hard to rotate strike. The timing was off and the confidence seemed missing as he searched for fluency.
The end came through Shamar Joseph and it was a sharp moment in the field. Joseph went full outside off. Suryakumar made room and tried to loft it. The face of the bat opened and the ball dipped towards sweeper cover.
Sherfane Rutherford ran in and dived forward to complete a stunning low catch with both hands. Just when West Indies needed a breakthrough, they struck.
Fans on social media were ruthless. The criticism poured in as Suryakumar’s lean patch extended at the worst possible stage of the tournament.
Here's how fans reacted:
The biggest disrespect to cricket was when Indian fans compared the 'minnow basher' Suryakumar Yadav with the legend and 360° batter, AB de Villiers 🤐 pic.twitter.com/N3ba5d56qZ

Be honest, I don’t think Suryakumar Yadav even deserves a spot in the team right now, forget about being captain.#INDvWI pic.twitter.com/UkFsDcqDYa
