KL Rahul has had one of the most intriguing IPL journeys. First starting his journey with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013, he has gone on to script a wonderful legacy for himself and represented 4 different teams. Now, with 6 years of IPL captaincy experience under his belt, he plays for the Delhi Capitals after being picked up by the franchise in 2025. But he has not particularly had a smooth ride as an IPL skipper.

Most infamous from his 3-year turbulent stint with the Lucknow Super Giants under Sanjiv Goenka's ownership (2022-2024) was a public incident that got a lot of attention. This occurred last year when Goenka was seen in a viral public outburst directed at KL Rahul, following LSG's humiliating 10-wicket defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

And now, in a recent episode of 'Humans of Bombay' in collaboration with Jatin Sapru, KL Rahul has revealed his thoughts as to why being an IPL captain is so difficult. By his own admission, it's even more challenging than playing International cricket for 10 months.

"What I found hard as a captain in the IPL was the number of meetings that you needed to do, the number of reviews that you needed to do and explain at the ownership level," KL Rahul explained. He further stated, "I realised that at the end of IPL, I am more mentally and physically drained than playing 10 months of international cricket."

Addressing the most challenging part of an IPL skipper, according to him, Rahul said, “Captaincy in IPL almost feels like you’re being questioned constantly as to why did you make this change…..why opposition scored 200 and you could only manage 120….why are their bowlers getting more spin.”

While the Wk-Batter didn't mention Sanjiv Goenka's name explicitly, one can easily guess that his statements were aimed at the LSG owner.

In International cricket, the coaches and the staff around the team know the answers to these cricketing questions, but when non-cricketing figures like team owners come into the conversation, the whole scenario changes. Now with the Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul will be looking to win his first IPL silverware and also bring home Delhi's first piece of trophyware.
