In a little relief to the struggling Lucknow Super Giants, a positive news has come out as Australian batter Josh Inglis is likely to join the squad ahead of the Mumbai Indians clash at Wankhede Stadium.

Josh Inglis to join LSG squad soon

He was unavailable for the first half of the season due to his wedding plans. Inglis got married on April 18 and is set to spend some time away before returning. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, he is expected to rejoin the squad before May 4.

This comes as a timely boost for a side that has struggled so far this season. LSG are currently placed eighth on the points table with just two wins in four games and have lost three matches in a row.

Their power packed batting line up featuring likes of Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran has failed to deliver, with none of the batters finding consistent form. The team is now expected to look at key changes and Inglis could play an important role in that shift.

Strong record and big auction price

Inglis had a solid season previously where he played for Punjab Kings and scored 278 runs at an impressive strike rate of over 162. He played a key role in their run during the latter stages of the tournament. He was later picked up for INR 8.6 crore at the auction and is expected to add strength to the LSG batting unit.

LSG started their campaign with a loss against Delhi Capitals but then registered two back-to-back wins. However, what followed was a nightmare phase. They went on to lose three consecutive matches and the latest defeat came against Punjab Kings where they were handed a crushing 54 run loss.

Their journey in this tournament has taken a serious hit and with the kind of form the players are in, it looks very tough for them to bounce back. The team management may now be forced to look at changes.

Matthew Breetzke is also part of the squad and could be an option. At the same time, a big call could revolve around Nicholas Pooran. It remains to be seen if LSG take a bold step or stick with their core.
