The Indian cricket team since its onset has lagged in the department of fast bowling throughout its existence. There have been some big names who dominated the sport: Kapil Dev, Zaheer Khan, Javagal Srinath, to name a few. They were great during their peak but due to lack of support from the other end and several other factors, they were amongst the best of their generation but they were not the undisputed best bowlers.

Enter Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah. When Bumrah entered the scene and approached near his India debut, there weren't many noises. He was touted as just another medium pacer who would serve the Indian team. He made his debut in a dead rubber ODI match against Australia. His first wicket was that of Steve Smith, but the real glimpses of him were seen in the T20 series that followed right after.

Bumrah has never looked back since. He has clearly established himself as the best all-format bowler in the world. Pundits all across the globe questioned his inclusion in the Test side initially; however, he made a terrific debut against South Africa and emerged as one of the finest bowlers in that series. Since then, he's grown leaps and bounds and has shown great improvement in every aspect of bowling. Primarily considered an inswinging bowler, he worked hard to add the outswinger to his armour during the Test series in England back in 2018.

What separates Bumrah from others is his hunger to keep improving and adding new variations to his bowling every time he goes into a new series. He keeps striving for success and never lets his emotions and ego take over him. Blessed with an action which is very unusual, it's very difficult for him to maintain his fitness levels at their finest, and he has had his fair share of injuries in the past few years. The comeback, however, has been far greater, and if anything, he came back stronger than ever and looks like someone functioning in a different stratosphere altogether.

Bumrah showcased his brilliance during the ODI World Cup, where he was both miserly with the ball and a key wicket-taker for India alongside Mohammed Shami. Unfortunately, the team fell short at the final hurdle. His class shone even brighter in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he dominated throughout the tournament and was deservedly named Player of the Tournament. In the same year, he went on to win the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award, which tells about the versatility of the showman. He went on to pick a total of 71 wickets in the year 2024 itself.

With him entering his thirties, there is a definite need for him to take care of his body. If that is taken care of properly, he will achieve a lot more and will continue taking heaps of wickets. Bumrah, if he stays injury-free, will go down as the greatest all-format bowler of all time. For him, the colour of the ball, playing conditions, pitches, and everything from the outside doesn't matter much. He is a magician with the ball, operating at the highest order. The fans of Indian cricket would definitely like this love affair to continue for as long as Bumrah wants to.
