Past History of the Indian Cricket Team: 

India played their first Test on 1932 June 25, against England under the captaincy of CK Naidu, their first one-day international match on July 13, 1974, under the leadership of Ajit Wadekar and their first T20 on December 1, 2006, under the captaincy of Virender Sehwag, making their first impact on the international stage. 

Best Achievement of the Indian Cricket Team in Cricket History (1983-2025): 

Team India won their first World Cup in June 1983, on June 25, under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. After this achievement, the growth of Indian cricket began. India defeated West Indies at Lord's by 43 runs. It's a really historic moment in cricket history for India.  

After 24 years, the Indian International cricket team lifted the World Cup in the T20 format on  September 24, 2007,  led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It was the first edition of the T20 World Cup. Men in blue beat Pakistan by 5 runs in South Africa. Then, four years later, the Indian National cricket team won the ODI World Cup on April 2, 2011, at Mumbai after 28 years under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. India won the final against Sri Lanka by 6 wickets. Team India also won the ICC Champions Trophy under the leadership of Dhoni. They beat England by 5 runs on June 23, 2013. 

Talking about India’s performance in the Asia Cup in the past 15 years, they have won in 2010, 2016. 2018, 2023, 2025 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav this year. They have won 3 in ODI format and 2 in T20 format. In cricket history, India has won 9 titles in the Asia Cup. 

All these performances have shown excellent consistency. That is the main reason the Indian International cricket team is known as the best team in Asia.  The team’s depth, strong batting lineup and world-class bowling attack made them unstoppable during this tournament. 

In recent times, the Indian Cricket team has clinched 2 ICC titles in the past 1 year.  Winning the ICC T20 World Cup after 17 years was an absolutely great moment in the history of Indian cricket. India defeated South Africa on June 29, 2024, in the West Indies by 7 runs under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Recently, India clinched the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, in the UAE on March 9, 2025. They have won the final match against New Zealand by 4 wickets, led by Rohit Sharma. 

In Test cricket, India became number 1 for the first time in 2009 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. They have obtained the number 1 spot for 2 years, from November 2009 to August 2011.  Later, after 5 years in 2016, the Indian national cricket team became the number 1 team again under the leadership of Virat Kohli. They have maintained their first spot till early 2022. Team India also played 2 ICC World Test Championship finals against New Zealand in 2021, and against Australia in 2023 at Lord’s Cricket Ground, England. 

All these moments are Iconic moments in Indian cricket history and known as supreme power in World cricket.
